SV Rod & Gun Club meetings are the 3rd Saturday of each month.
Montezuma Muzzleloaders (MML) was first formed in 1976, and is still going strong today as one of the biggest muzzleloading clubs in Arizona. MML was organized for the purpose of promoting the safe use and handling of muzzle loading firearms, improving marksmanship with such firearms, and the development of good fellowship, self-discipline, team play, and self-reliance. The MML has a further purpose to promote and preserve the history of the early United States in which such firearms played a prominent role, and the knowledge of the personages prominent in the fur trade era. Now in its sixth decade, the MML has expanded its original purpose to include Muzzleloaders, Black Powder Cartridge Rifles and Pistols, and Lever-Action Rifles of the 19th Century.

Montezuma Muzzle-Loaders hosts shoots on the second, fourth, and fifth Saturdays of each month. Please contact us to confirm the starting time, bad weather cancellations, National Forest closures due to fire conditions, and any other particulars. We provide targets and target stands, as well as a healthy dose of fun. Naturally, eye and ear protection are required. We look forward to seeing you at one of our great shoots!
On every second Saturday, our shoot takes place in the Coronado National Forest near Sonoita, AZ, and it is designed for muzzle-loading weapons only. Historic costumes are not required but they are always appreciated. Muzzleloaders from every era are welcome including matchlocks, flintlocks, percussion, and modern in-lines, lead round ball or conical, and all types of sights are allowed. A typical match consists of about 25 shots at paper, steel, and novelty targets from 20-140 yards, typically fired from the offhand position. Pistol matches are also included. The matches vary each month to keep things interesting. You can load from your possibles bag, the tailgate of your truck, or from a table. Incorporated into the shoot is a pot-luck, so you need to bring a lawn chair, water, and some victuals. We shoot in a relaxed setting, and it is a great place for beginners to learn the ropes, because our club includes shooters from novices to national champions.
On every fourth Saturday, our shoot is called “The Old Timey Shoot,” and it takes place on Range 5 of the Sierra Vista Shooting Range. This shoot is for antique and reproduction muzzleloaders and BPCR including Civil War breech-loaders, Sharps, Rolling Blocks, Trapdoors, Stevens, Ballards, and lever-actions. You can warm-up at any distance you like out to 500 meters, and a match will be held once everyone has a good zero. Typically, the match will be at targets from 50-200 meters, fired from either bench rest or offhand positions, depending on the target and the distance. You will need 30-40 rounds for this shoot, and you should bring bench rest gear. Spotting scopes or binoculars are especially helpful if you want to take advantage of the long-range possibilities. Be sure to bring a sack lunch and some water. This is a relaxed shoot where you can learn about a variety of old weapons that most people have only seen in museums. If you see one you would like to shoot, our members are normally accommodating and let you try a shot or two. Nowhere else in Arizona provides the opportunity to see so many different types of antique weapons being used in one place.
On every fifth Saturday, we host a lever-action pistol-caliber silhouette shoot. Pistol-caliber means .32-20, .38 Spl, .357, 38-40, .44-40, .44 Spl, .44 Mag, and 45 Colt. Lead bullets only. Jacketed bullets and hot magnum ammo are not allowed because they will destroy our expensive steel silhouettes. We adhere closely to the NRA silhouette rules for this sport, which you can find online at NRA.org. Bring a sack lunch and water.
